Rules for using templates effectively:

Rotate variants. Never use the same template for more than 30% of your outreach in a given week. LinkedIn monitors message similarity across recipients. Load 3-5 templates per sequence stage into your automation tool and enable random rotation.

Fill every personalization slot. A template with empty slots (“I noticed {blank}”) is worse than no template at all. If you cannot fill a personalization field for a specific prospect, skip that template and use one that requires information you have.

Adapt to your voice. These templates reflect a direct, professional tone. If your natural communication style is different, adjust the wording while keeping the structure. The structure (observation + value + question) is what works. The exact words should sound like you.

Test and iterate. Track acceptance and response rates by template variant. After 100 sends with a template, you have enough data to evaluate performance. Retire templates below your baseline metrics and test replacements.
